There's a habit a lot of us fall into: finding a skincare routine that works, and then sticking with it, all year round. It feels sensible — why change something that isn't broken?
But our skin isn't static. It changes with the seasons, and what it needs changes with it.
Skin responds to its environment
During the summer, our skin contends with more sun exposure, higher humidity, and — for a lot of people — more time spent outdoors generally. Come winter, the same skin is dealing with cold air, indoor heating, and far less moisture in the atmosphere. Skin that felt balanced in July can feel completely different by December, simply because the environment around it has changed.
This is part of why we've moved to a seasonal approach at Boo. We keep a small core collection all year round — the products that work for most people, most of the time, regardless of the weather. Alongside that, we bring in seasonal collections every three months, timed to the equinoxes, built around what skin tends to need at that particular point in the year.
This summer: keeping it simple
At the moment, that means Chamomile Cleanser from the core range — gentle enough for daily use, whatever the weather — paired with Nourish Face Oil, a lightweight oil from our summer collection, perfect for skin that's had a bit more sun and outdoor time than usual.
It's a genuinely simple pairing: cleanse, then a few drops of oil. Nothing heavy, nothing that fights against the heat.
The bigger point
You don't need a different product for every week of the year, and you don't need ten steps to have a routine that actually works. But it is worth occasionally asking whether what you're using still suits what your skin is currently dealing with — rather than assuming what you've always used will be the right fit all year round.
Small, seasonal adjustments tend to serve skin better than one routine across all twelve months.
